Can I use my own EGT/Boost/Air Intake temp/Fluid temp/Fuel Pressure/Oil Pressure sensors?
For the built in display to show correctly sensors must match the specifications here, Winlog can be customized with your own curve so datalogging will work with a correct custom curve. EGT probe must be a k type thermocouple with an ungrounded junction, using a grounded junction EGT probe will damage SLC Pure Plus 2 and void the warranty.
Can I share a EGT/Boost/Air Intake temp/Fluid temp/Fuel Pressure/Oil Pressure sensors between SLC Pure Plus 2 and a Gauge/datalogger/ECU/etc...?
No, SLC Pure Plus 2 must have it's own dedicated sensors.
How come the list of parameters shown on the built in display is less than the list of Real-Time datalogging/Internal Memory datalogging parameters?
This is due to memory limitations of the microcontroller used in SLC Pure Plus 2.
What assurances do I have that the AFR/Lambda is accurate?
SLC Pure Plus 2 is put through a rigorous calibration and testing routine before shipping. If you really need assurance that SLC Pure Plus 2 is accurate, I can ship you a small tank of lab grade lambda gas and a jig for you to verify accuracy, you will however need to pay a deposit fee and shipping charges both ways for the tank and jig, email toalan@14Point7.com for more information.
I have suspicions about the quality of SLC Pure Plus 2, can you tell me how you ensure quality and reliability?
14Point7 backs SLC Pure Plus 2 with a 2 year warranty, it is by far the longest warranty in the industry, the long warranty is testimony to our commitment of quality and reliability.
The following is an incomplete list of SLC Pure Plus 2 design choices to ensure quality and reliability
- For every IC, only the highest temperature rating version of that IC is used, incidentally this is also the most expensive version of the IC. When available extended industrial temperature rated, -55[C] to 125[C], components are used. Microcontroller and flash memory are industrial temperature rated, -40[C] to +85[C], as no higher temperature rated versions are available.
- Power filtration capacitors are solid tanatulm capacitors with a rated life of half-a-million hours @ 125[C]. SLC Pure Plus 2 does not use cheaper electrolytic capacitors. This is very important for automotive environments where the electrolyte in electrolytic capacitors will go through many cycles of freezing and heating causing the the capacitor to bulge and explode
- All other capacitors are X7R rated solid ceramic capacitors, X7R is one of the highest grades for ceramic capacitors
- Power inputs are over-voltage, fused, and reverse-voltage protected
- SLC Pure Plus 2 utilizes dual fuses, one for the electronics and one for the sensor, many other brands of lambda controllers do not even have a single fuse
- SLC Pure Plus uses "real" fuses and not cheaper self-resettable fuses because self-resettable fuses take a long time to blow, do not have the temperature ratings suitable for automotive use, and have low voltage ratings
- All inputs and outputs are over-voltage and over-current protected including the USB lines
- All components are name brand components sourced directly from Digikey except; LED display (sourced from mouser) and 2.54mm pin headers(sourced by assembly house)
Do I need to perform Free-Air-Calibrations all the time like I need to do with innovate products?
Free Air Calibration is optional. SLC Pure Plus 2 with a Lambda sensor in good condition is designed to be 0.01 Lambda accurate without free-Air-Calibration. The primary advantage of Free-Air-Calibration is to take into account sensor aging so to ensure 0.01 Lambda Accuracy. For SLC Pure Plus 2, you only need to perform Free-Air-Calibrations after prolonged Lambda sensor use, I suggest after 10,000 km with normal driving under non-race conditions.
If you do use the Free-Air-Calibration feature, the frequency of required Free-Air-Calibrations is only half that of Innovate products, this is because innovate products have 2 parameters to calibrate whereas SLC Pure Plus 2 only has 1 parameter to calibrate.
Can I datalog multiple SLC Pure Plus 2 units at the same time to my PC?
SLC Pure Plus 2 uses Winlog for datalogging and Winlog will support as many SLC Pure Plus 2 units as your PC has usb ports, actually it is upto 128 SLC Pure Plus 2 units as the USB specifications allow for up to 128 connected USB devices through the use of USB hubs. Please see this video for more details, www.14Point7.com/Support/Software_Documentation/Winlog_SLC_Tut1.wmv
Can I connect and log SLC Pure Plus 2 with SLC DIY1/SLC DIY2/SLC Pure Plus1 at the same time?
Are other display colors available?
Sorry only green is available at this time.
Can you explain "Analog inputs are shared with Accelerometer inputs, user configurable as to which parameter to log?
SLC Pure Plus 2 has 2 analog inputs, the on-board dual axis accelermoeter has 2 voltage outputs to represent Accel/Decel G force and cornering G force. To log G forces you configure SLC Pure Plus 2 so that the outputs of the accelerometer are electrically connected to the analog inputs, you do this by setting jumpers. If you do not need to log G forces then you electrically disconnect the accelerometer outputs from the analog inputs, this will free the analog inputs for logging voltages from external sensors.
Can I change the built in display so that EGT is displayed in [F] or Boost is displayed in [Hg] or ........?
No, the display units are permanently set in firmware.
Can I change the Winlog display so that EGT is displayed in [F] or Boost is displayed in [Hg] or ........?
Yes, Winlog is very very flexible, you will need to read the Winlog manual and find out how to do it yourself.
I do not like the Winlog dashboard for SLC Pure Plus 2, can I change it?
Yes, you can customize Winlog in infinite ways, you will need to read the Winlog manual and find out how to do it yourself.
Can I use the NTK or the Bosch 4.9 lambda sensor with SLC Pure Plus 2?
No, only the Bosch 4.2 sensors are supported, specifically the 17014 and the 17053.
I heard that [Insert brand x] requires a heatsink on the lambda sensor for proper functionality, does SLC Pure Plus 2 require that?
This issue limited to a very specific brand of Lambda Controllers which does not accurately measure the temperature of the lambda sensor and requires measures such as a heatsink on the lambda controller as a band aid. SLC Pure Plus 2 does not require a heatsink unless the lambda controller is installed very close to the exhaust port of a high output turbo charged engine.
It is worth knowing that SLC Pure Plus 2 is the only lambda controller on the market that displays lambda sensor temperature to inform the customer of under/over temperature conditions with the lambda sensor. If the sensor is consistently above 750[C] it is advisable to move the lambda sensor further downstream from the engine exhaust port or use a heatsink on the lambda sensor. If temperature is consistently below 750[C] it is advisable to move the sensor closer to the engine exhaust port or use heat wrap around the lambda sensor.
I want to use the Linear Output to interface SLC Pure Plus 2 to my fuel management unit or datalogger, I hear that with [insert brand X] grounds need to be very carefully done to avoid accuracy problems, does SLC Pure Plus 2 have the same issues?
Yes, if you are using the Linear Output then you need to be careful when choosing your grounds, however SLC Pure Plus 2 has a built in mechanism to easily catch grounding problems, see section 1.5.3 in the user manual for more details. If you are not using the Linear Output then grounding points are not an issue as other forms of data output are digital.
What is the advantage of the SLC Pure Plus 2 design vs [insert brand x]?
Other designs utilize a simple microcontroller and add layers of additional external circuitry for functionality. SLC Pure Plus 2 utilizes a complex microcontroller and avoids the additional layers of external circuitry. External circuitry is fixed function with parameters that can not be changed. The SLC Pure Plus 2 design shifts fixed function circuitry to the programmable fabric within the microcontroller, equivalent functionality served by fixed function circuitry can be easily changed and tailored for a specific task at a specific time within the programmable fabric of the microcontroller on-board SLC Pure Plus 2.
For instance, most Lambda Controllers require an amplifier to amplify small signals from the lambda sensor so to maximize accuracy and resolution. Typically an external amplifier is used with the amplification level set with external resistors, the amplification level fixed.
SLC Pure Plus 2 also has an amplifier, however this amplifier is built into the programmable fabric of the microcontroller and its characteristics can be changed dynamically according to the task at hand. For large signals the amplification is dialed down so that the output does not clip, for small signals the amplification is dialed up to maximize accuracy and resolution. This is just a very basic example to illustrate the design advantages SLC Pure Plus 2 has over competing units.
It is also worth knowing that as part count increases, reliability has a tendency to go down as there are now more potential sources of failure. By integrating more functionality into a single microcontroller and reducing the number of external components, SLC Pure Plus 2 offers both increased performance and increased reliability.
Is SLC Pure Plus Compatible is Mega Squirt?
Yes, you connect the Linear Output from SLC Pure Plus 2 to Mega Squirt, configure megasquirt for; 10[AFR] @ 0[V] linear to 20[AFR] @ 5[V].
