SLC Pure Plus 2 FAQ also applies to SLC DIY 2, below are FAQs specific to SLC DIY 2

What is the difference between SLC DIY 2 and SLC Pure Plus 2?
Both units are identical except that SLC DIY 2 does not have Internal Memory for datalog storage. The exact same assembled PCB is used for both units. Both units run an almost identical firmware.

SLC DIY 2 requires assembly of the cables and mounting the the PCB into the enclosure. SLC DIY 2 does not have a warranty, SLC Pure Plus 2 has a 2 year warranty.
SLC DIY does not have a machined backplate, SLC Pure Plus 2 has a machined back plate.

What is a machined back plate?
It is a piece of plastic that closes the back portion of the unit. SLC DIY has no machined backplate, so when looking at the back of the unit you can see inside the unit. The back side of SLC DIY 2 is mostly filled with connectors, so the lack of a machined back plate is not a big deal. The machined back plate primarily serves to give the unit a more finished look, if you plan on operating the unit in a dusty area then you probably want to get SLC Pure Plus 2 rather than SLC DIY 2.

How long does assembly take?
It takes about 45 minutes to make the cable and mount the PCB into the enclosure

How much soldering is involved?
Very little, the only soldering you need to do is soldering of the cable to the PCB and soldering of the cables to contacts.

Are there any components that is not included in a SLC DIY 2 pruchase?
Each SLC DIY 2 purchase includes everything you need. The Lambda sensor and other sensors; EGT, MAP, Fluid Temp, etc.... are not included.

Techedge has the 2Y DIY Lambda Controller for only $99, why should I get SLC DIY 2 over the lower priced Techedge DIY unit?
SLC DIY 2 has the following advantages over the Techedge 2Y unit
  • Built in display, Techedge requires additional purchase
  • Includes all cable and cable components, 2Y requires additional purchase
  • SLC DIY 2 components are all pre-soldered, 2Y requires soldering of many components
  • Because SLC DIY 2 components are all pre-soldered, each SLC DIY 2 unit is calibrated and tested before shipping. Techedge can not calibrate and test their 2Y kit since it must be assembled before doing so.
  • SLC DIY 2 has built in USB, 2Y relies on serial port so you will likely need to purchase a usb-to-serial converter.
  • Each SLC DIY 2 purchase includes a full and unrestricted copy of Winlog, $30 value, for datalogging and data visualization. 2Y does not include PC software for datalogging and data visualization, instead they rely on a free version of Winlog with limited features.
  • SLC DIY 2 has a built-in dual axis accelerometer.
  • SLC DIY has inputs for; EGT,MAP,Fluid Temperature,Air Intake Temperature,Fuel Pressure, Oil Pressure, and dual analog inputs. 2Y has 3 EGT inputs and 3 analog inputs.
There are other differences but they are minor and not worth talking about.

Is SLC DIY 2 based on assembled PCBs that got rejected for SLC Pure Plus 2?
No, both units are tested to meet the exact same specifications, a properly assembled SLC DIY 2 unit performs identical to a SLC Pure Plus 2 unit.

Can I solder the Flash Memory IC and enable Internal Memory for datalog storage?
No, Internal Memory for datalog storage is disabled in firmware.
